This piece is a reflection on love as a revolutionary act and a force powerful enough to carry us through uncertainty, hardship, and change.
My understanding of unconditional love comes from the village of women who raised me. My mother, who believed in me even when I made rebellious and unconventional choices. My church mothers and aunties, who helped guide me, correct me, and remind me that my actions reflected something larger than myself. Their love was the type that says, “I love you to the edges of the universe and back three times,” and they meant every word of it. That love became a set of guardrails, protecting me as I moved through the darkness and uncertainty of life.
In a world riddled with chaos, division, and increasing isolation, this piece asks whether love itself can be a radical act of resistance. We speak often about community, sometimes so much that the word begins to lose its meaning. Yet the need for genuine connection has never been greater. While technology has made us more accessible to one another, it has also left many of us feeling disconnected and alone. This piece considers whether radical love, care, and a commitment to community might be the medicine for that separation.
This composition is ultimately a prayer for one another. A reminder that we are shaped by the people who loved us before we understood what love was, and that our responsibility is to carry that love forward for those who come after us.
